2 Timothy 2

1Timothy is exhorted to constancy and perseverance in the discharge of his duty, as a good soldier of Christ, looking for a certain reward of his fatigues and sufferings; 15to divide the word of truth rightly, and to shun profane and vain babblings. 17The dangerous error of Hymenaeus and Philetus. 19The foundation of God standeth sure. 20Of vessels honourable and dishonourable. 22Timothy is taught what to flee, and what to follow, and how the servant of Christ must behave toward all men.

1 THOU therefore, amy son, bbe strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2 And cthe things that thou hast heard of me 1among many witnesses, the same dcommit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

3 Thou therefore eendure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4 fNo man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

5 And gif a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not hcrowned, except he strive lawfully.

6 iThe *husbandman 2that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

7 jConsider what I say; and kthe Lord give thee understanding in all things.

8 Remember that Jesus Christ lof the seed of David mwas raised from the dead according to nmy gospel:

9 oWherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but pthe word of God is not bound.

10 qTherefore I endure all things rfor the select's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11 tIt is a faithful saying: For uif we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

12 vIf we suffer, we shall also wreign with him: xif we deny him, he also will deny us:

13 yIf we believe not, yet zhe abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

14 aOf these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they bstrive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

15 cStudy to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, drightly dividing the word of truth.

16 eBut shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

17 And their word will eat as doth a 3*canker: of whom is fHymenand Philetus;

18 gWho concerning the truth have erred, hsaying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

19 Nevertheless ithe foundation of God standeth 4sure, having this seal, jThe Lord knoweth them that are his. And, kLet every one that nameth the name of Christ ldepart from iniquity.

20 But min a great house nthere are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and oof earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21 pIf a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and *meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

22 qFlee also youthful lusts: but rfollow righteousness, faith, *charity, peace, with sthem that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23 But tfoolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do *gender strifes.

24 And uthe servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, 5patient,

25 vIn meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; wif God *peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26 xAnd that they may 6recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are 7taken captive by him at his will.
