Paul setteth before the Ephesians their former corrupt heathen state, and God's rich mercy in their deliverance. We are saved by grace, not of works, yet so as to be created in Christ unto good works. They who were once strangers, and far from God, are now brought near by Christ's blood, who having abolished the ritual law, the ground of distinction between Jew and Gentile, hath united both in one body, and gained them equal access to the Father. So that the Gentiles are henceforth equally privileged with the Jews, and together with them constitute an holy temple for the habitation of God's Spirit.
aAND you hath he *quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
bWherein in time past ye walked according to the ccourse of this world, according to the dprince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the echildren of disobedience:
Among whom also fwe all had our *conversation in times past in gthe lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the 1desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is hrich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
iEven when we were dead in sins, jhath *quickened us together with Christ, 2(by grace ye are saved;)

- 2: Or, by whose grace.
And khath raised us up together, and made us sit together lin heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
That in the ages to come mhe might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
For nby grace are ye saved othrough faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
pNot of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are qhis workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before 3ordained that we should walk in them.
Wherefore rremember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called sUncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
That at that time tye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
uBut now in Christ Jesus ye who *sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
For he is vour peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the wmiddle wall of partition between us;
xHaving abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of *twain yone new man, so making peace;
And that he might zreconcile both unto God in aone body by the cross, having slain the enmity 4thereby:
And came and bpreached peace to you which were afar off, and to them cthat were nigh.
For dthrough him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Now therefore ye are no more estrangers and foreigners, but ffellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
And are gbuilt upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
hIn whom all the building fitly *framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
