Ezekiel 24

By the parable of a boiling pot is shewed the destruction of Jerusalem, the bloody city. 15Ezekiel is forbidden to mourn for the death of his wife, 19to denote that the calamity of the Jews shall be beyond all expressions of sorrow. 25In that day of affliction the prophet's mouth shall be opened to their conviction.

AGAIN in the aninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Son of man, bwrite thee the name of the day, even of cthis same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.

And dutter a parable unto the erebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a fpot, set it on, and also pour water into it:

gGather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.

Take the choice of the flock, hand 1burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them *seethe the bones of it therein.

¶Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the ibloody city, to the pot whose jscum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! kbring it out piece by piece; let lno lot fall upon it.

For mher blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;

That nit might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; oI have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; pWoe to the bloody city! I will even qmake the pile for fire great.

rHeap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and sspice it well, and let the bones be burned.

Then tset it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that uthe filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.

She vhath wearied herself wwith lies, and xher great scum went not forth out of her: yher scum shall be in the fire.

In zthy filthiness is lewdness: abecause I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, bthou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, ctill I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

I dthe LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, eneither will I spare, neither will I repent; faccording to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord GOD.

¶Also the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Son of man, behold, gI take away from thee hthe desire of thine eyes with a stroke: iyet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears 2run down.

3Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, jbind the *tire of thine head upon thee, and put kon thy shoes upon thy feet, and lcover not thy 4lips, and eat not the bread of men.

So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at meven my wife ndied; and I did in othe morning pas I was commanded.

¶And the people said unto me, qWilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?

Then I answered them, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I rwill profane my sanctuary, the sexcellency of your strength, the tdesire of your eyes, and 5that which your soul pitieth; and uyour sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall vfall by the sword.

And wye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor xeat the bread of men.

And your *tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall ypine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another.

Thus Ezekiel is unto you za sign: aaccording to all that he hath done shall ye do: and bwhen this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them ctheir strength, the djoy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and 6that whereupon they set their minds, etheir sons and their daughters,

That fhe that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?

In that day gshall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and hbe no more dumb: and thou shalt be ia sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
