1Jacob receiveth from Isaac a charge and blessing, and goeth to Padan-aram. 6Esau marrieth a daughter of Ishmael. 10The vision of Jacob's ladder; he receiveth a promise from God in a dream. 16He awaketh, and setteth up the stone at Beth-el. 20His vow.

1 AND Isaac called Jacob, and ^ablessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, ^bThou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to ⁱPadan-aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

6 ¶When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, ^jThou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

16 ¶And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I ^cknew it not.

19 And he called the name of that place ⁵Beth-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
