James 5

Wicked rich men are warned of God's impending judgments. 7The brethren are exhorted to patience after the example of the prophets and of Job: 12to abstain from swearing; 13to pray in affliction and sickness, and sing psalms in prosperity: 16to acknowledge mutually their faults, and to pray for one another: 19and to endeavour to reclaim sinners.

aGO to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

bYour riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

cYour gold and silver is *cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together dfor the last days.

eBehold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of fsabaoth.

gYe have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in ha day of slaughter.

iYe have condemned and jkilled the just; and he doth not resist you.

k1Be patient therefore, brethren, unto lthe coming of the Lord. Behold, the *husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive mthe early and latter rain.

nBe ye also patient; ostablish your hearts: for pthe coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

2Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: qbehold, the judge standeth before the door.

Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, rfor an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

Behold, swe count them happy twhich endure. uYe have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that vthe Lord is very *pitiful, and of tender mercy.

wBut above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

xIs any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? ylet him sing psalms.

Is any sick among you? let him call for zthe elders of the church; and let them pray over him, aanointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

bAnd the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and cif he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Elias was a man fsubject to like passions as we are, and ghe prayed 3earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

And hhe prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Brethren, iif any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way jshall save a soul from death, and shall khide a multitude of sins.
