Job 2

Satan appeareth again before God, and is allowed to make further trial of Job. 7He smiteth him with sore boils from head to foot. 9Job rebuketh his wife, who moved him to curse God. 11Three of his friends visit him, and condole with him in silence.

AGAIN athere was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And bSatan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered cmy servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and *escheweth evil? and dstill he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, 1to destroy him ewithout cause.

And Satan answered the LORD, and said, fSkin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

But gput forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will hcurse thee to thy face.

And the LORD said unto Satan, iBehold, he is in thine hand; 2but save his life.

¶So jwent Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job kwith sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

And he ltook him a *potsherd to scrape himself *withal; and he msat down among the ashes.

¶Then said nhis wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? ocurse God, and die.

But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the pfoolish women speaketh. What? shall we qreceive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? rIn all this did not Job sin with his lips.

¶Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; sEliphaz the tTemanite, and uBildad the vShuhite, and wZophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together xto come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, yand knew him not, they zlifted up their voice, and wept; and athey rent every one his *mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

So they bsat down with him upon the ground cseven days and seven nights, and none dspake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.
