Psalms 118

An exhortation to praise God for his mercy. 5The Psalmist by his own experience sheweth how good it is to trust in God. 19Under the type of the Psalmist the coming of Christ in his kingdom is expressed.

O GIVE athanks unto the LORD; for he is good: bbecause his mercy endureth for ever.

cLet Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

dLet the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

eLet them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

I fcalled upon the LORD 1in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in ga large place.

The hLORD is 2on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

The iLORD taketh my part with them that help me: jtherefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

It is kbetter to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

It is lbetter to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

mAll nations *compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I 3destroy them.

They *compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

  • *: compassed-surrounded.

They n*compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the LORD I will 4destroy them.

Thou ohast thrust *sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me.

The pLORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.

The qvoice of rejoicing and salvation is in the *tabernacles of the righteous: rthe right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

The sright hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

I tshall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.

The uLORD hath *chastened me *sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.

  • u: 2Co. 6:9
  • *: chastened-corrected by punishing. , sore-very greatly.

vOpen to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:

This gate of the LORD, winto which the righteous shall enter.

I xwill praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

The ystone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

5This is the LORD's doing; zit is marvellous in our eyes.

aThis is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

bSave now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.

cBlessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: dwe have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

eGod is the LORD, which hath fshewed us light: gbind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.

hThou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

iO give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
