To the chief Musician upon 1Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David.

  • 1: Or, The hind of the morning.

MY aGod, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far 2from helping me, and from the words of bmy roaring?

O my God, cI cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and 3am not silent.

But dthou art holy, O thou that einhabitest the praises of Israel.

Our ffathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were gnot confounded.

But I am ha worm, and no man; ia reproach of men, and jdespised of the people.

All kthey that see me laugh me to scorn: they 4shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

He 5trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: llet him deliver him, 6seeing he delighted in him.

  • 5: Heb. rolled himself on the LORD. Mat. 27.43. , Mat. 27:43
  • l: Ps. 91:14
  • 6: Or, if he delight in him.

But thou art he that mtook me out of the womb: nthou didst 7make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.

I owas cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.

Be pnot far from me; for trouble is near; for there is 8none to help.

Many qbulls have *compassed me: rstrong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

They s9gaped upon me with their mouths, as a *ravening and a roaring lion.

I tam poured out like water, and all my bones are 10out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

My ustrength is dried up like a *potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and vthou hast brought me into the dust of death.

For wdogs have *compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have *inclosed me: xthey pierced my hands and my feet.

I ymay *tell all my bones: zthey look and stare upon me.

They apart my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

But bbe not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.

Deliver my soul from cthe sword; 11my darling 12from the power of dthe dog.

Save me from the elion's mouth: for thou hast heard me ffrom the horns of the *unicorns.

I gwill declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

Ye hthat fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

For ihe hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

My jpraise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

The kmeek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

All lthe ends of the world shall mremember and nturn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

For othe kingdom is the LORD's: and he is the governor among the nations.

All they that be pfat upon earth qshall eat and worship: all they that rgo down to the dust shall bow before him: and snone can keep alive his own soul.

A tseed shall serve him; uit shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

They vshall come, and shall declare whis righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.
